Abstract
The hydrazone of a-dimethylaminoacetophenone may be prepared by refluxing a mixture of the ketone and 85% hydrazine hydrate for a short time. It decomposes when heated with potassium hydroxide to give N, N-dimethylphenethylamine, When the aminoketone is heated for a longer period of time with hydrazine hydrate, the amino goup is lost and acetophenone hydrazone is formed.
