Bicyclo [4. ll] octa-2, 4-diene (4) has been synthesized by a new, nine-step route, starting from 2-[(trimethyl-silyl) oxy]-1, 3-butadiene and acrolein. Diene 4 proved almost as unreactive toward Diels-Alder cycloadditions as the previously studied 7, 7-dimethyl
