Abstract

Abstract: An efficient biomimetic p-lactam synthesis has been developed on the basis of cyclization of substituted 8-hydroxyhydroxamic acids. The method is experimentally simple and, by appropriate choice of amino acid starting material, allows complete control of the stereochemistry at all positions of the p-lactam.
