Abstract: Rates of solvolysis of w-chloro-and w-fluoro-substituted 2-alkyl tosylates were determined in acetic, formic, and trifluoroacetic acid for tosylates having four to seven carbon atoms in the aliphatic chain, The magnitude of rate-decreasing inductive influences upon the rates of reaction diminished as the solvent was varied according to the order trifluoroacetic acid> formic acid> acetic acid.
