Abstract
Structure A can be ruled out for a number of reasons. It is difficult to see why only one trifluoroacetyl group would become hydrated and not the other. The compounds are unchanged after standing in air for long periods of time. This might be explained if the compounds werehighly enolic, but this is ruled out by the negative ferric chloride test and the absence of the appropriate bands in the infrared spectra. A nonenolic ...
