Abstract
Toluene and ethylbenzene react with styrene in the presence of sodium to form monoadducts, 1, 3-diphenylpropane (I) and 1, 3-diphenylbutane (11) and diadducts 1, 3, 5- triphenplpentane (111) and 1, 3, 5-triphenylhexane (IV), respectively. The yield of monoadducts can be increased by the presence of promoters, such as benzylsodium, anthracene or sodium isopropoxide. Isopropylbenzene requires the presence of ...
