Abstract

Solvents other than benzene were used with I1 (n= 4). This sulfone was treated with sodium amide in monoglyme, diglyme, and tetrahydrofuran, and with potassium t-butoxide in diglyme. With either base in diglyme (as well as after prolonged refluxing in benzene) a small amount of polymeric material was obtained along with starting material, after acidification.
