Abstract

An investigation recently completed in this Laboratory2 has revealed that neither ethyl isovalerate nor ethyl t-butylacetate undergoes the acetoacetic ester condensation in the presence of sodium ethoxide, either under equilibrium conditions or when provision is made for removal of alcohol from the reaction mixture.
