Abstract

A complex neighboring group approach provided a successful synthesis of methyl 3-amino- 2, 3-dideoxy-2-mercapto-a-~-allopyranoside hydrochloride (IX). The blocked 3- aminoaltroside (11) afforded, in two steps, the crystalline dithiocarbamoyl mesylate (VI) which, heated in pyridine, cyclized to the thiazoline V, that was reduced to the thiazolidine 1V.
