Abstract

In the present investigation a study has been made of the possibility of using certain simple aliphatic esters as component B in the Michael type of condensation. Since esters are capable of undergoing self-condensation (Claisen type) in the presence of bases, the procedure followed has been to treat a mixture of the ester and a,@-unsaturated keto compound with a base.
