Abstract
In a recent note by one of us l) it was pointed out that Holleman's views on the mechanism of substitution reactions in the aromatic nucleus are probably correct and that stereochemical considerations render van der Linden's objection invalid. It seemed very desirable to obtain experimental proof of the formation of geometrical isomers during substitution reactions and for this purpose anthracene derivatives are particularly suitable owing to the comparative ...
