Abstract

susceptibility to electrophilic attack of the 5'-free dipyrrylmethanes was already described by us1 and later confirmed by other^.^ After 72 hr saponification was complete: nmr 2.7 (m, 8, CHzCHz), 3.5 (br, 4, CHzCO), 3.7 (br, 2, pyrr-CHppyrr), 4.0 (br, 2, CH2NH2). The substance was rapidly transformed into porphyrins by manipulation. Addition of an acid resin (IRC-H+ or IRA 120-H+) allowed adjustment of the solution to pH 7.
