Abstract
The dehydrobrotnination of certain a, a-dibromoacetals was studied in an attempt to prepare allenes of the type, R2C= C= C (OCzHb) n. Reaction of the dibromopropionaldehyde acetal (I) yielded only propiolaldehyde acetal (11). The dibrornoisovaleraldehyde acetal (111) was readily dehydrohalogenated to the a-bromosenecialdehyde acetal (IV), but the dehydrobromination of this compound with either potassium t-butoxide or sodium ethoxide ...
