Abstract

ABSTRACT: Synthetic approaches to 9-(3-hydroxypropoxy) guanine (2) involving the intermediacy of either a 1-alkoxyimidazole (1) or a 4-alkoxyaminopyrimidine (13) are described. This 9-alkoxyguanine (L) has potent and selective anti-herpesvirus activityand is the first reported member of a new series of antiviral acyclonucleosides.
