Abstract: Reactions of a series of oxalate esters with hydrogen peroxide and fluorescent compounds were examined for chemiluminescent light emission. Electronegatively substituted aryl oxalate esters were found capable of generating light with high efficiency; a quantum yield of 0.23 einstein mole-'was obtained from bis (2+ dinitrophenyl) oxalate, hydrogen peroxide, and rubrene.
