Abstract
Galanthamine is an alkaloidal acetylcholinesterase inhibitor (AChEI) which has been approved in several countries for treating symptoms of Alzheimer's type senile dementia [1,2]. In the course of our investigations into the oxidative tandem cyclization protocol [3,4,5,6,7,8] we sought to extend this reaction type to the preparation of carbocyclic galanthamine analogs.
