Abstract

Gas Phase. The steric requirement for complex formation appears to be far less in the gas phase than in solution and complexation is observed both in the presence of ortho substituents and peri interactions. This suggests that charge transfer (CT) is the preferred complexation mode, which does not require close approach of the crown to diazonium ion.
