Abstract
A simple procedure for the asymmetric synthesis of lignans via chiral β-benzyl-γ- butyrolactones has been developed. The key benzylbutyrolactone intermediates were efficiently synthesized using a six-step procedure, starting from 3, 4-(methylenedioxy) cinnamic acid.
