Abstract

Compounds IV were synthesized from phenylhydrazine and p-substituted acetophenones in polyphosphoric acid [5] in one step, without intermediate isolation of the corresponding phenylhydrazones. The synthesis of 2-(p-aminophenyl) indole V, previously described by us [1], was more laborious. Hydrochloride VI was synthesized from amine V in absolute ethanol.
