Abstract
The activated acetates (4, ac) react with 1, 3, 5-trialkyl hexahydro-1, 3, 5-triazines (5, ac) to form, depending on the conditions, 1, 5-disubstituted-3, 7-dialkyl-3, 7-diazabicyclo [3, 3, 1] nona-2, 6-diones (1, bi) or 5, 5-disubstituted-1, 3-dialkyl hexahydropyrimidines. In the case of the reaction of ethyl benzoylacetate (4d) with 1, 3, 5-trimethyl-hexahydro-l, 3, 5-triazine (5a) an alternative pathway produces the tetrahydropyridine (8).
