Abstract: The excitation of perchlorotriphenylmethyl radical (PTM) at 532 nm leads to an excited doublet,* PTM*(7= 7 ns). The lifetime of this state is insensitive to oxygen, electron acceptors, and hydrogen-donating solvents. Electron donors (triphenylamine, N, N- dimethylaniline, and thianthrene) quench 2PTM* at diffusion controlled rates.
