Abstract
Tertiary aliphatic alcohols, in general, undergo reactions in which the, hydroxyl group is removed, such as dehydration and conversion to halides, more easily than do primary alcohols, but do not so readily enter into reactions in which the alcoholic hydrogen atom is replaced, such as esterification and etherification. In this connection, it seemed of interest to investigate the effect of an amino group on the pioperties of an alcoholic hydroxyl group.
