Abstract

A new, convenient method of making a-substituted tertiary phosphines has been discovered in the reaction of lithium diphenylphosphide with a-chloro ethers, tertiary amines, and thio ethers. The preparation of bis-(diphenylphosphinomethyl) ether (I) and its reaction with dibromomethane and 1, 2-dibromoethane to give six-and seven-membered cyclic 3-oxa-1, 5- diphosphonium salts is described.
