Abstract

Recently we described a procedure in which the Reformatsky reaction is carried out by passing a mixture of an a-bromo ester and an aldehyde or ketone through a heated column of granular zinc.'This continuous-flow adaptation of the conventional synthesis of P-hydroxy esters2 was shown to give substantially improved yields.
