Abstract
Summary An empirical rule for the estimation of steric hindrance to addition reactions at a doublybonded aliphatic function is enunciated. If one numbers the atoms in branched compounds starting with the atom of the doubly-bonded function most distant from the chain then the greater the nsmbtw of atoms in the six position the greater the steric hindrance to addition.
