Abstract

Results Oxyanions. We find that 11-hydroxy-9, lO-dihydro-9, lO-ethanoanthracene (l) & yields anthracene (2) in high yield upon treatment with an equivalent amount of potassium hydride in THF/HMPA at room temperature, although it cycloreverts thermally only at temperatures above 200 oC. 8b The reaction can be carried out also in the absence of HMPA or even by using NaH.
