Abstract

A series of 2-mercaptoethyl carbamates have been prepared in non-polar solvents by the reaction of primary and secondary amines with ethylene monothiolcarbonate. In the presence of an ionizing solvent, ethylene monothiolcarbonate and amine were found to react to produce low-molecular-weight polyethylene sulfides of the general formulas,% N (CHICHIS), H and RzNCOZ (CHdXXaS), H.
