Abstract
2-Phenylbutanenitrile has been alkylated with the butyl chlorides, using both sodamide and sodium hydride as condensing agents. With sodium hydride, the yields of products were found to be from 3 to 15y0 less than with sodamide. As predicted on the basis of Newman's
