Abstract Unlike thermotropic liquid-crystalline C 3-symmetric molecules with flexible chains, the herein-designed fully rigid three-armed molecules (C 3-symmetric and unsymmetric) create a fancy architecture for the formation of lyotropic liquid crystals in water.
