Abstract
Treatment of hypertensive disorders has been revolutionized in recent years by the discovery and use of agents which inhibit the release of neurohormones from the postganglionic sympathetic nerve endings. The first compound discovered to have this effect was choline 2, 6-xylyl ether bromide'(I), which effectively blocks transmission at peripheral sympathetic nerve terminals but suffers from muscarinic side-effects.
