Abstract
The product mixture obtained by free-radical chlorination of spiropentane has been shown to consist in part of the nprinal substitution product, chlorospiropentane, but mainly of chlorides which can be accounted for by initial ring-opening attack of a chlorine atom on carbon. The latter products include 1, l-bis-(chloromethyI)-cyclopropane, 4-chlnro-2- chloromethyl-1-butene and 1, 2, 4-trichloro-2-ehloromethylbutane.
