Abstract
Until recently benzyl-lithiums have not been readily avail- able,' and, even though they are accessible from benzyl sulphides and lithium,* they have not been used for synthesis of aryl alkanes, probably because the lithium benzenethiolate concomitantly formed competitively reacts with alkyl hal- ides.2.3 The successful synthesis1 of benzyl-lithiums, including those bearing a fully alkyl substituted carbanionic centre, from ...
