Abstract

Earlier investigation has shown2 that cerin and friedelin possess the same polycyclic nucleus of thirty carbon atoms. It is the purpose of this paper to describe certain functional derivatives of these substances, thereby confirming the carbonyl nature of friedelin and demonstrating that cerin is an hydroxy ketone.
