Abstract: Several bis (9-triptycy1) methanes and bis (9-triptycyl) ethers have been prepared by the addition of benzynes to bis (9-anthry1) methane and by the thermolysis of 9-triptycyl9- triptyceneperoxycarboxylates, respectively. The internal rotation in these bevel-gear-shaped molecules was found to be very rapid on the NMR time scale in solution, while the I3C NMR spectra of the ether taken by the CPMAS technique showed the splitting of the bridgehead ...
