Abstract

The dibenzenesulfonamide of benzidine is oxidized with lead tetraacetate in acetic acid to diphenoquinonedibenzenesulfon-imide. Action of dry hydrogen chloride on this substance gives a single adduct, the dibenzenesulfonamide of 3-chlorobenzidine. Action of hydrogen chloride on this substance leads to a mixture of two adducts: the dibenzenesulfonamide of 3, 3'-dichlorobenzidine and an isomeric diamide, assigned the 3, 5-dichloro structure.
