Abstract

Abstract A procedure suitable for the preparation on a large scale of 5′-O-(methoxyacetyl)- 3′-O-propionylribonucleosides (9a-d) from each of the four main ribonucleosides 6a-d has been developed. The usefulness of 9a-d as starting products for the synthesis of crystalline 2′-O-(methoxytetrahydropyranyl)-ribonucleosides (11a-d), which are key intermediates in the synthesis of oligoribonucleotides, has been demonstrated.
