Abstract

A mild and efficient catalytic method for Friedel–Crafts sulfonylation of arenes to the corresponding sulfones using a catalytic amount of reusable solid acid and arene-or alkanesulfonyl chlorides, sulfonic anhydrides and sulfonic acids as sulfonylating agents is described.
