Abstract

Dimethylneopentylamine oxide when pyrolyzed produces neopentane and dimethylneopentoxyamine. The product ratios and amounts provide evidence regarding the nature of the reaction; the rates of decomposition allow an estimate of ca. 32 kcal/mole for the energy of the primary carbon-nitrogen bond in aliphatic amine oxide.
