Abstract

Abstract The syntheses of the bis (styryl) benzenes 4 and 5 and of the aza analogue 3 are described. Diamine 3 and dialdehyde 5 were cyclized to the 14-membered macrocycles 19 and 27, respectively. Diamine 4 and glyoxal give the 28-membered macrocycle 28. The cyclizations are discussed.
