Abstract

2-Phenyl-3-(2-methyl4, S-dinitrobenzoyl)-butyric Acid.-One gram of the malonic ester adduct was heated under reflux for four hours in a mixture of 10 ml. of glacial acetic acid, 7 ml. of water, and 1.5 ml. of concentrated sulfuric acid. The reaction mixture was then poured into 100 ml. of cold water; the acid precipitated as a brown gum.
