Abstract

Summary Trimethylsilyl groups attached to benzene rings have been shown by dipole moment studies to be slightly electron-releasing. The relative reactivities of the carboxyl groups in m-and p-trimethylsilylbenzoic acids indicate that the electrical influence of the trimethylsilyl group is different in kind from that of alkyl groups.
