Abstract

Abstract 5-Norpyridoxol (3, 5-dihydroxy-4-hydroxymethyl-6-methylpyridine, I) has been synthesized. In contrast to the other two isomeric norpyridoxols (II and III), it proved to be inhibitory to Saccharomyces carlsbergensis. Improved methods of synthesis for some intermediates previously described have been developed.
