Abstract

The synthesis of 5-diazoacetyluracil (XI) from 5-acetyluracil (111) was accomplished by treatment of the oximino ketone (X) of I11 with chloramine. In another attempted approach to XI, 5-bromoacetpluracil (V) was prepared and was converted to a number of interesting 5- substituted uracils.. 4 new svnthesis of 6-aeetyluracil (XX) was developed and unsuccessful attempts were made to convert it to 6-diazoacetyluracil.
