Abstract

6-hydrolyze to yield the corresponding hydroxy compounds. However, an attempt to hydrolyze 3-aminobenzo [c] phenanthrene by boiling for 6 hr. in strongly alkaline aqueous dioxane failed to yield any trace of phenol and the amino compound was recovered in almost quantitative yield. We conclude that no imino form is present.
