Abstract
Summary Methods of chlorinating phenyl ether and separating pure products have been devised and the orienting influence of the chlorine atom in 4-chlorophenyl ether has been studied. A second substituent enters the nucleus either at position 3 or position 4'-with the latter isomer usually predominating. The structure of all new compounds was established by several methods of synthesis.
