Abstract

In the nitration of benzaldehyde m-nitrobenzaldehyde is the chief product, the 0-and p- compounds being obtained by this means only in very small quantities. Although a method other than the simple nitration of benzaldehyde must be followed to prepare o- nitrobenzaldehyde, it is possible to obtain substituted o-nitrobenzaldehydes by nitrating the corresponding benzaldehydes, in which the m-and p-hydrogen atoms are replaced by ...
