Abstract

The purpose of this work was to determine whether elimination reactions which occur when ethers are treated with organoalkali metal compounds are a-or@-elimination processes. It was found by use of deuteriqm labeled compounds that the ethylene obtained from the reaction of propylsodium with ethyl aryl ethers originated by@-elimination.
