Abstract

Abstract The reaction of adenine derivatives with isoamyl nitrite in anisole solution was re- investigated. The arylated products are a mixture of ortho, meta, and para-methoxyphenyl isomers with the ortho predominating. It is concluded that this is a typical free-radical arylation and that the 6-purinyl radical is a normal, well behaved aromatic radical.
