Abstract
The blue solution obtained by reducing hydrated ruthenium (III) trichloride with ethanol is used as a convenient starting material in the synthesis of several tris (β-diketonato) ruthenium (III) and tris (β-diketonato) ruthenate (II) complexes. The Hammett constants of the substituents on the ligand serve as a helpful guide for choosing the operating conditions.
