Thermal and photochemical isomerizations of isoxazoles into azirines, oxazoles, and a- carbonyl derivatives of acetonitrile have been widely investigated.'However, most of this research has been concerned with isoxazoles substituted with electron-releasing groups such as amino, alkyl, and alkoxy.
